A Teacher - Student Alliance
The online program Fables to Grow On offers significant potential for individual or classroom use. In addition to expanding a student’s imagination, the fable series teaches social skills, character traits and the fundamental values we all share, not the ones that divide us. As in the oral tradition, the stories motivate and captivate attention. As a resource, Fables to Grow On presents excellent content for teaching comprehension, verbal expression and listening skills. It can be especially helpful as an infusion for already established programs. It is primarily designed as a teacher-directed instructional activity. The story themes may be integrated across the curriculum with expression in social studies, art, music, and physical education contexts.

With easy printout, the Teacher’s Guide includes suggested instructional strategies for each of the stories. These strategies build on skills already acquired by students through their developmental reading, writing, and listening experiences.
The format includes the following:
- Vocabulary — One or two words have been pre-selected from each story. A brief, simple definition is provided for each word along with
a sentence to illustrate the word’s meaning.
- Introduction — A brief introduction is provided to establish a purpose for reading or listening.
- Discussion — Questions are provided to stimulate discussion following the story. The questions are designed to elicit higher-level
thinking skills. Answers will vary and in many cases will be largely formulated through student thought and opinion.
- Enrichment — As a follow-up to the stories, enrichment activities are suggested.
- Character Traits — Key character traits are listed for theme identity.
Ideally, one story is scheduled for reading weekly. Through this unique one-on-one experience, the opportunity exists for motivating the student to expand his or her emotional intelligence and apply both thinking and language arts skills as an enhancement to lifelong learning.
